Platte County Citizens Coalition on:

Endorsements

We would like to announce that the we will be endorsing four candidates seeking to represent Platte County residents this November.

Since our Board is comprised of nearly equal representation by Republicans, Democrats and Independents, the candidates we have chosen to endorse represent both of the main political parties and reflect or respond to most of the values of the Platte County Citizens Coalition.

The candidates we have chosen for endorsement are:

Kathy Dusenbery, Republican, for Platte County Commission, District 1

Kathy Dusenbery is a proven leader. She has more than 11 years of public service. As Mayor of Parkville, Kathy tackled the task of building a new city hall on time, within budget and without raising taxes. She understands that realizing the full benefits of economic development also means managing that development. She has been a champion for environmental issues, including starting a recycling program in Parkville and working successfully with the Army Corp of Engineers to solve the erosion problems of Rush Creek.

As a 23 year resident of Platte County, Kathy has been an active leader in the community as Mayor of Parkville for eleven years, as the Platte County representative to the Mid-America Regional Council and within her church and children’s schools. She is the proud mother of three children, and wife to Brad. Kathy Dusenbery cares deeply about Platte County and will work hard so that it continues to be a great place to live, work and have a family.

Jim Plunkett, Republican, for Platte County Commission, District 2

Jim Plunkett was elected to the second district post in 2004. This is his first time serving in public office. Plunkett brings more than 25 years business experience in the private sector to the commission. His expertise was garnered as owner and operator of JPI Glass in Kansas City, Mo.

He and his wife, Sherri, have been married 18 years and have three children. His family attends Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Jim and his family live south of Platte City in the unincorporated area.

He wants all citizens to know he has an open door policy and welcomes any and all suggestions that could help Platte County.

One of the concerns that faces the second district of Platte County is maintaining the roads and bridges. He plans to continue to represent the interests of the citizens of the second district and stay vigilant about the safety and condition of our roads and bridges.

Plunkett decided to run for re-election because he feels there have been great strides in improving Platte County. He is passionate about Platte County, and having lived here for almost twenty years, he understands the issues we face. He wants to continue to be a part of the progressive solutions to those problems.

Bonnie Brown, Democrat, Platte County Treasurer

Platte County Treasurer Bonnie Brown, who was elected in 2000, brings a strong financial background to her position. With more than 20 years experience in the banking industry, Brown has overseen numerous technological upgrades that have improved efficiency in the treasurer’s office.

Brown has proven herself to be a community leader by serving on the boards of organizations such as the Platte City Rotary, Northland Symphony Orchestra, Park Hill Community Drug Task Force, Habitat for Humanity Northland, Platte County Economic Development Council and area chambers of commerce.

Lisa Pope, Republican, Platte County Assessor

A native of Platte County, Lisa Pope was elected to office in 2004 and brings 16 years experience to managing the assessment of all real estate and personal property in a county exploding with growth.

She was officially appointed to her position by Governor Matt Blunt after former assessor Christine McQuitty issued her resignation in 2005. Before seeking office, Pope was chief deputy assessor in the Platte County assessor's office for 14 years.

Her accomplishments in that position included spearheading the implementation of a technologically advanced appraisal and assessment computer program; collaborating with the collector's office to solve taxpayer issues; and developing office procedure manuals for personal property and business personal property.

Non-Partisan Court Plan

The PCCC Board believes in the need for independent judges in Missouri — and throughout the United States. It’s imperative that our nation’s three branches of government remain separate, and provide the checks and balances that our nation’s founding fathers envisioned to survive inevitable shifts in political leadership.
