UPCOMING EVENTS:

Foreclosed: The Growing Mortgage Crisis in K.C.

Members of PCCC,

As the mortgage crisis in Kansas City continues to grow, foreclosures seem to become a more familiar occurrence in many neighborhoods.

The following documentary was brought to our attention by Cindy Circo, Kansas City Councilwoman, 5th District at Large. As you watch and learn about the conditions of our neighborhoods, ask yourself “What can I do to change a block in Kansas City?” We can adopt a house or adopt a block to help change the face of our Kansas City neighborhoods. We can make a difference.

KCPT will air a locally-produced, one-hour show on the growing foreclosure crisis in the Kansas City area on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. The special production will include video segments about Kansas City area foreclosures, live interviews with those involved in the issue and also a call-in feature so that those facing foreclosure can talk to trained counselors and get assistance.
Watch a preview of the show's opening segment.

The KCPT show also explores the foreclosure issue by telling the story of one house, located at 318 N. Wheeling in northeast Kansas City: how it was bought in 2004, foreclosed on, vacated, and stripped, and still retains the evidence of how it once provided a home and shelter to a family.
Watch the story of one house.

LINC worked closely with KCPT on this project and hopes that the community will tune into Channel 19 to learn more about how foreclosures affect our region, communities, neighborhoods and families. LINC also has been working with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., Mid-America Regional Council, NeighborWorks America and other community groups on the foreclosure issue.
